New ECE104 Regulations

Truck at night with conspicuity tape

European studies have shown up to a 42% reduction in side and rear impacts into large trucks at night when using reflective contour marking. There is an estimated 4500 accidents of this type per year in the European Union. The use of reflective contour marking can prevent many of these accidents, resulting in an estimated savings of €389.5 million in both personal and property damage.

ECE104 regulations require new heavy goods vehicles (HGV's) to add conspicuity tape to both the sides and rear of the vehicles to improve their safety on the road. Starting July of 2011, newly registered rigid, curtain and tanker trucks with a weight of 7.5 tons or greater and trailers with a weight above 3.5 tons must be in compliance.
